Firm history:

The business, originally known as Chris Land & Associates was commenced in Home Hill by Chris Land in April 1994 with four staff. Chris had 21 years experience in public practice prior to him starting his own practice.

In 1997 Chris purchased another accounting firm on the Ayr side of the Burdekin River, known as Frank Phillips & Assocs. This purchase also included the franchise of H & R Block.

In July 2000, Peter McKaig joined Chris in the business and the name LAND McKAIG originated. Peter had commenced working with Chris when the business commenced in 1994. Peter began managing the Home Hill office while Chris managed the Ayr offices. In 2003 the Ayr offices were merged into one office and the H & R Block franchise was amalgamated into the LAND McKAIG business.

During 2004, a visiting office was set up in Townsville to help service a growing number of clients in Townsville and also to diversify the practice into different types of business and industry to ensure the long term stability of the business.

In 2005 a full time office was set up in Townsville. John Licciardello joined Chris & Peter in the business; he had been with the firm since 1998. John began managing the Ayr office, allowing Chris to move to Townsville to manage the Townsville office, and oversee the operation of the two Burdekin offices.

2005 also saw the commencement of a financial planning arm within the business. The financial planning area is growing and expanding rapidly.

In September 2008 LAND McKAIG acquired the chartered accounting firm of PKF (Townsville). LAND McKAIG is now a major accounting firm in the North Queensland region.

The firm now employs approximately 40 staff and 3 Partners. The firm consists of 17 full and part-time accountants with support staff. The client base is spread over a vast area, some overseas, Burdekin, Townsville, Cairns, Bowen, Whitsundays, North western Queensland and down the eastern coast of Queensland.
